Life, intended as organisms capable of growth, reproduction and continual change preceding death, is the most resilient system on this planet. Before you think this is an obvious point take a look at how deadly Mars is and all the other planets in our solar system.
Since life appeared on Earth, almost 4 billion years ago, there have been at least 5 mass extinction events, the latest wiped out 96% of marine species and more than 70% of land species, including our beloved dinosaurs.
On top of these death inducing events there have been million years long ice ages, continent shattering earthquakes, universal flood (just kidding) and many other catastrophic affairs.
No matter how disastrous and global the accidents were, life always came back with a vengeance.
